Smart Edit
Smart Edit lets you tweak your analysis results without having to go through every section one by one. Just describe what you want changed, and Smart Edit will find and apply it across your session. You review everything before it's saved.
What Is Smart Edit?
After GM Assistant analyzes your session, the results are not always perfect. The wrong character name might be used, the recap might be missing a key moment, or you might want the recap in some wacky style.
Smart Edit understands your notes and makes targeted changes based on your instructions. It works across all the fields in your session at once, so you don't have to hunt through each section manually.
How to Use It
- Open a session that has a completed analysis
- Enter Edit Mode using the edit toggle
- Click the Smart Edit button (magic wand icon)
- Type your editing instruction in the text box
- Click Generate Changes
- Review the suggested changes
- Toggle off any changes you don't want or manually edit the suggested text
- Click Apply Changes to save
Processing typically takes a few seconds, though more complex instructions may take a minute.
Suggested Use Cases
Here are some of the most common and effective ways to use Smart Edit:
Fix Character or Location Names
If the analysis got a name wrong, Smart Edit will find and fix it across all fields at once: the recap, character list, memorable moments, everywhere.
Example instruction
Change all instances of "Theron" to "Therion"
Correct a Factual Error
If the analysis attributed an action to the wrong character, or mixed up who had an item, tell Smart Edit what actually happened.
Example instruction
Fix that it was Alice who found the enchanted sword, not Bob. Alice gave it to Bob later at the tavern.
Add a Missing Stylized Recap
Want a recap in a style that wasn't generated? Just ask for it. Applying the change will add the recap as a new style under the "Stylized" section.
Example instruction
Add a pirate-style recap of the session
Remove Irrelevant Content
If a section contains something that wasn't actually part of the session, have it removed.
Example instruction
Remove the location "Dragon's Peak" because it was only mentioned as a joke, not actually part of the session
Fix Chronology or Timeline Issues
If your notes describe events in the wrong order, Smart Edit can correct the sequence so the timeline matches what actually happened in the session.
Example instruction
Fix the chronology: we negotiated with the mayor first, then investigated the mill, and only fought the cultists that night.
Writing Good Instructions
Smart Edit works best when your instructions are clear and specific. A few tips:
- Be specific about what's wrong and what's right. "Fix the sword ownership" is vague. "Alice had the enchanted sword, not Bob" is clear.
- Keep it focused. Each instruction can include up to 3 distinct changes. If you need more, run Smart Edit multiple times.
- Use names and details. The more context you provide, the better the result. Reference specific characters, items, or events.
- You can combine related changes. "Change Theron to Therion and fix that he's a wizard, not a warlock" works well in a single instruction.
Limits & Usage
Smart Edit includes free edits with every session and uses credits for additional edits beyond the limit.
Free Edits Per Session
- Free accounts: 5 edits per session
- Subscribers: 10 edits per session
Each time you click "Generate Changes" counts as one edit, regardless of how many individual field changes are suggested.
Beyond the Free Limit
After using your free edits, additional edits cost 5 credits each. The Smart Edit modal shows your current usage and credit balance so you always know where you stand.
Other Limits
- Instruction length: Up to 1,000 characters per instruction
- Changes per instruction: Up to 3 distinct logical changes (e.g., fix a name + add a recap + remove a location = 3 changes)
- If you need to make more changes, simply run Smart Edit again with a new instruction
Reviewing Changes
Smart Edit never modifies your notes without your approval. After generating changes, you'll see a preview of every suggested modification:
- Each change shows the field being modified (e.g., "Recap", "NPCs > Voss")
- Find & replace changes highlight the specific text being swapped
- New additions show what will be added
- Deletions show what will be removed
- Use the toggle on each change to include or exclude it
- You can manually edit any suggested value before applying
Once you're satisfied, click Apply Changes to save the selected edits to your session. Only the changes you've left toggled on will be applied.
