May Updates: Speaker Labels for Multi-Track Sessions

Speaker Labels for Multi-Track Audio

If your group records each speaker on a separate track, GM Assistant now labels every line of your transcript with who said it, and uses those labels to produce a noticeably more accurate analysis.

Here's what a labeled transcript looks like:

GM: A goblin steps out from behind the rocks, drawing a rusted shortsword. Gandalf: I light my staff and call out to it. Stand down, creature. Frodo: I keep my hand on the hilt of Sting, watching the treeline. GM: The goblin hisses, glances over its shoulder, and starts backing away. Gandalf: Don't let it run. We need to know who it answers to.

Speaker labels show up in every transcript format (plain text, SRT, VTT, JSON). And because GM Assistant is not guessing who said what during overlapping or rapid-fire exchanges, your recaps, memorable moments, and character tracking all get more accurate.

When and how can I do multi-track?

Each track should hold one or more known speakers, but a given speaker should only appear on one track.

Works well

  • One track per player headset on a Discord call.
  • A couple sharing a single mic, with both names assigned to that track.
  • The GM voicing every NPC on the GM track.

Doesn't work

  • Multiple mics in the same room (everyone sitting around a table, two phones recording from different angles, etc.). Every mic picks up every speaker, so there's nothing to separate. For setups like this, a single audio file is the better choice.

Way more info in the Docs, including how to capture per-speaker audio with Craig bot, OBS, or per-player mics. Speaking of docs: there's now a search box across the whole docs section to help you find what you need faster.

For those of you recording everyone on a single mic: we're working on automatic speaker detection so you can get labels without providing separate tracks. Look for that later this year, probably Q3, but I promise nothing :P

Smart Edit Leveled Up

When you ask Smart Edit to fix a name or spelling, it now reliably catches every mention across your whole session, including first names, last names, and plural forms. No more spotting one straggler in a memorable moment after you thought you'd fixed it everywhere.

Speak Your Language

Language Dialects

Hey commonwealth countries, sick of changing "Zeds" to "Esses"? You can now pick a regional dialect for your sessions, and your notes will respect the spelling and grammar conventions you actually use.

  • English - American, British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand
  • French - France, Québécois
  • Spanish - European, Mexican, Latin American
  • Portuguese - Brazilian, European

Snarky Summaries in More Languages

Our popular snarky summary style is now available in French, German, and Spanish.

UI Polish

Andrei (part-timer) and I have started doing little dedicated hackathons to improve the interface, browser compatibility, and quality of life. We did a lot of testing this past week and only got through fixing a fraction of our list this time.

Notable Tweaks:

  • Smoother navigation - Browser back and forward buttons now work as expected while moving around a campaign.
  • Blocker warnings - If a browser extension or ad blocker is breaking site features, we'll now let you know instead of leaving you guessing. We had one bug where the Brave browser would hide the "GDPR Consent" checkbox for our EU users, making it so they could not upload.
  • Layout fixes - Fixed navbar overflow at certain window sizes, a session details layout issue, and moved the mobile dropdown search to the bottom of the screen for easier reach.
  • Editing fixes - We fixed a couple of issues where you could end up editing multiple fields at once, which could cause problems.

I'll report back in June when we have a few more things moving in and out of our Alpha testing program.
