July Updates: Developer API Open to Everyone

Hello All,

It's that time of year again, I'll be at GalaxyCon Raleigh this weekend and Gen Con next weekend, playing games and preaching the GMA gospel (no booth, just hanging out). Hit me up if you'll be around, I have some free GMA swag to hand out.

Behind the scenes, we've been working on a ton. Most of it is groundwork, which means you all can expect some rapid releases over the next few months. It also means I've earned my first vacation since doing GMA full-time, so I'll disappear for a bit after Gen Con.

Some feedback keeps coming up that I want to highlight: since we introduced speaker labels, folks uploading multi-track audio have been telling us their analyses make way fewer mistakes. That makes me even more excited that one of the big things coming soon is bringing that functionality to groups that record everyone on one microphone.

Developer API: Open to Everyone

Our v1 Developer API is out of Alpha and available to every user. If you can write a script, you can now automate everything you normally do after a game session. Our Alpha testers have already been doing that, wiring up scripts so their post-session notes just show up. I really appreciate them for battle-testing the API and working out some rough edges.

Are you ready to build something? Start with the Quick Start guide. If you do make something cool, or plan to, show it off in Discord. We made a new #dev-api channel.

Other Improvements

  • Full Campaign Download - You can now download all of your campaign and session data in one zip file.
  • Smart Edit fix - Fixed a bug where Smart Edit changes occasionally wouldn't apply to a scene's key events.
  • Snappier UI - We've started moving the app itself onto the new v1 API where appropriate, we have more to do here so expect the app to get more responsive.
